Faced with the climate emergency, the textile sector must reduce produced volumes.
Textiles are one of the most polluting sectors in the world. It would be responsible for between 2% and 8% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. To meet the Paris agreements and stay below 1.5° of global warming, the textile sector would need to divide its production volumes by three by 2050.
Indeed, contrary to popular belief, it is the clothing production phase that emits the most greenhouse gases: during the production of the necessary raw materials (52%), then during the manufacturing (weaving, assembly, etc.) which accounts for 43% of the sector's emissions*. Transport only represents 1 to 3% of emissions.
The reason: this production is today mainly located in Asia, where the machines run on very polluting fossil fuels, such as oil or coal.
In summary, to achieve the sector's reduction objectives it would therefore be necessary:
- significantly slow down produced volumes
- relocalize what is necessary in Europe and particularly in France, where energy is cleaner.
Here, we unearth the most beautiful pieces. We don't produce them.
Fashion is an eternal restart, why produce new items of what already exists somewhere?
Imparfaite is the digital platform that awakes dormant stocks. Vintage, archive, prototypes, pieces with small defects, we highlight these forgotten fashion items. In a world ruled by the frantic pace of new collections, we are committed to bringing back the beauty of pieces that already exist.
- Vintage, our first love
For us, vintage is our greatest chance to reduce the carbon footprint of the sector:
Everything exists in vintage, in quantity and for all budgets. Hundreds of millions of units of clothing exist today, enough to cover generations of women and men.
- Private sales of the most beautiful green brands
To revolutionize the sector, you have to be part of it. Since 2023, we have been working hand in hand with the finest green brands to sell their dormant stocks and archives and promote the circularity of their products.
Imparfaite reduces the quantities of new clothing produced by awakening dormant stocks.
Together, greener fashion is possible.
